About the Artist

Kathleen has been painting in pastels and oils since 1983. She has taught
extensively in Philadelphia and Maine, presented a 3-day workshop in
Atlanta, Georgia for the Southeastern Pastel Society, and continues to offer
plein air painting workshops in Maine. She offered a demonstration/lecture
at Learning & Product Expo: Art, Washington DC, June, 2006

Kathleen has had a number of solo shows in Philadelphia and Maine. Her
work is represented by Greenhut Galleries in Portland, Maine and is in the
collection of the Farnsworth Art Museum, Bates College Museum of Art and
in many corporate and private collections worldwide. Two of her pastel
paintings are published in Carl Little's The Art of Maine in Winter.

Illustration was her focus of study at Philadelphia College of Art, and
although she preferred to take the route of painting as a career, Kathleen
has from time to time indulged in illustration projects, including a number
for archaeology. The most recent publication was the cover painting and
design for her husband, Dr. Warren Riess' book Angel Gabriel: The Elusive
English Galleon
.

A few years ago, Kathleen began experiencing health problems from
working in pastels and oils. Looking for a solution, but unable to find one
available, she and her husband developed and now produce Artist's Air, an
air filtering system that collects air and impurities at the artist's easel, filters
it, and returns clean air to the studio. It seems to have alleviated her
problems and now a typical day will find her painting with oils or pastels in
her studio while her cats sleep nearby, or working in her gardens or
Christmas tree plot at her home in Maine.
