THE 44TH PARALLEL

I adopted the Pemaquid peninsula in mid-coast Maine as my home over 30 years ago, a place full of intimate coves and gentle estuaries and where coniferous woodlands lead to rocky ledge and open sea vistas. It lies within the 44th latitude that intersects the state. This home has provided me with the sustenance and inspiration for paintings and poetic scribblings. So too has Warren Riess, my husband and soulmate, my true north. 

For a good portion of my professional painting career,  I painted landscapes from places that exist. Lately, I have added to my painting interests the excitement of exploring non-specific places, drawn from my memories of actual locations. Other times I interpret nature in abstract compositions. I guess the constant theme in my work is the thread of light and the allowance of an evolving process.
